In 1892, George T. Ulmer recorded his memories of his time as a drummer boy in the Civil War. Just sixteen at the time he joined the army, Ulmer served with the 8th Maine Volunteers, Co. H. He was at the battle of Petersburg, and with his comrades-in-arms suffered much. Re-published with additional research notes provided by author and historian Caroline D. Grimm.
